Three composers with premieres at musikprotokoll 2023 discuss the significance of artistic research in their work and how they perceive and explore their own interconnectedness with the (sound) environment, nature, and other living beings.
Sandeep Bhagwati is an internationally active composer, scholar, journalist, spoken-word performer, poet, and theater director. He blends composition and improvisation, explores the sonic landscape of India, and engages with inter/trans art.
Liza Lim’s compositions focus on collaborative and transcultural practices. At the heart of recent works is an ecological humanism, a listening to the “more than human,” and a celebration of female spiritual lineages.
Irish composer Karen Power has listened and recorded in the most remote places in the world. She combines field recordings with acoustic instruments. The result is concert music, sound art, augmented instruments, and real and imaginary sound worlds.
