As the finale of ORF musikprotokoll 2023, Ö1 Kunstradio presents the premiere of An Emotional Encyclopedia of War by Kyiv-based artist, podcast and radio producer Anna Kravets. Kravets places us in an acoustic air-raid shelter and explores the question of how one feels in a state of war.

Every day, we see people seeking shelter from bombs in basements, subway tunnels, and bunkers in the news. But how those seeking protection experience this is difficult to convey.

Anna Kravets tried to create a situation that can overcome the limits of reporting. To this end, Kravets invited volunteers to spend time with her in a basement and reflect on what it means to live in a state of emergency. These “emergency rehearsal” sessions were recorded and form the basis of the radio essay
