AI Images of Mira Schendel in Graz

Mira Schendel’s archive contains little to no traces of her wartime life in Europe. This curatorial intervention imagines what such evidence might look like to the neural net of a commercial AI used to generate fantastic yet strangely realistic images. It tells Mira Schendel’s story as a Swiss Catholic of Jewish origin who studied art and philosophy in Italy until the war broke out. And it imagines her flight from Italy in 1939 and her Kafkaesque trip to Graz in 1944.
