konfrontationen 9:
music—common language (?)
With students, musicians, and composers from Styria

Concert

Language connects people, and music is said to be a language that is understood all over the world—in other words, an ideal medium for being “interconnected | interdependent.” At the same time, it is often challenging for young people to find possible approaches to Neue Musik because of its unfamiliar sounds.

Together with musicians from the Schallfeld Ensemble, contemporary music composers, and the string choir of the Johann-Joseph-Fux Conservatory, students from the Musikgymnasium Graz, Stiftsgymnasium Admont, Musikmittelschule Großklein, Musikschule Vasoldsberg, ASO Fürstenfeld, and the social Vivaldi Project deal with the sonic language of Neue Musik.

They experiment with unusual sounds, relate them to spoken language, design musical structures, and create a piece from them. This creates a way of approaching the sonic language of Neue Musik and a basis for works that reflect the relationship between language and music.
