Andreas Fogarasi

Nine Buildings, Stripped (Vorklinik) (2023)
Roof Spares (2023)

Andreas Fogarasi’s presentation investigates the remains of Graz’s Vorklinik, the Post-Brutalist medical faculty building torn down in 2023. Fogarasi’s work breaks the building further down into its aesthetic components and materials. The artist thus paints an abstract portrait of a specific urban situation, reduced to materiality, colors, and tactile qualities. Spare parts of Minoriten’s historic roof, displayed on a plinth, highlight the roofscape of the city as a contested ground for real estate development and profit.

Andreas Fogarasi (1977, Vienna, Austria) is an artist working with installation, sculpture, video, and photography. Drawing upon Minimalist and Conceptual Art, his works are at once autonomous and documentary and examine the political appropriation of (visual) culture. He has had numerous international exhibitions, including solo exhibitions at Quartz Studio, Turin; Kunsthalle Wien; MAK Center, Los Angeles (with Oscar Tuazon); Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst, Leipzig; Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid; Ludwig Forum, Aachen; Grazer Kunstverein; and the Hungarian Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennale. He lives in Vienna.
